Bawumia urges Telecel Ghana to uphold highest standards of ethics, transparency & corporate governance

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has encouraged Telecel Ghana to prioritize investing in the digital capabilities of young Ghanaians to shape the country’s future as it embraces the 4th Industrial Revolution. Dr. Bawumia made these remarks during the official launch of Telecel Ghana’s operations on Monday, March 12.

Telecel Ghana, formerly known as Vodafone Ghana, has been acquired by Telecel Group, an Africa-focused telecommunications company with expertise in combining telecom with fintech, e-commerce, and tech startups.

During the launch event, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the importance of upholding high standards of ethics, transparency, and corporate governance. He urged Telecel Ghana to expand its network and innovate in its operations to ensure accessible, safe, affordable, and reliable network services for customers.

Additionally, he called on Telecel Ghana and other stakeholders in the telecom and fintech industries to prioritize investing in the digital capacities of young Ghanaians as part of their corporate social responsibility efforts.

The acquisition of majority shares in Vodafone Ghana by Telecel Group in February 2023 marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s telecom industry. Telecel Group aims to bring disruptive innovation to Ghana’s telecom sector by offering customer-centric products and exceptional customer service.

Moh Damush, CEO of Telecel Group, highlighted the significance of the acquisition, emphasizing the company’s commitment to advancing telecommunications in Ghana while meeting the evolving needs of customers. He expressed confidence that the rebranding from Vodafone Ghana to Telecel Ghana signifies a bold step forward into a future where innovation, quality, and customer satisfaction are paramount.

Patricia Obo-Nai, CEO of Vodafone Ghana, also expressed excitement about the transition, emphasizing the goal of delivering a great network that promotes personal and business growth.

The rebranding exercise, which began in January and culminated with a full brand reveal in February 2024, includes Vodafone Ghana and its subsidiaries: National Communication Backbone Company Limited (Vodafone Wholesale), Vodafone Ghana Mobile Financial Services Limited (Vodafone Cash), and the Vodafone Ghana Foundation.

Overall, the rebranding of Vodafone Ghana to Telecel Ghana represents a strategic move aimed at enhancing telecommunications services in Ghana and meeting the evolving needs of customers in the digital age.
