African Games: Black Princesses shine against Ethiopia despite ‘dumsor’

The Black Princesses of Ghana started their campaign in the 2023 African Games women’s football tournament with a 1-0 victory over Ethiopia, despite facing two power outages during the match.

The first outage occurred in the 36th minute, causing a delay of nearly 20 minutes before play resumed. Unfortunately, just before halftime, another power outage forced the referee to end the first half prematurely.

Despite these interruptions, the lights remained stable in the second half, allowing Ghana to secure the win with a goal from Jacqueline Owusu in the 59th minute. Despite being reduced to 10 players later in the match, Ghana managed to hold on for the victory.

The team’s next match will be against Tanzania, followed by their final group stage match against Uganda.

The power outages during the game have raised concerns, and authorities will need to investigate the causes to prevent similar incidents in future matches.
