Haruna Iddrisu Reveals Acquisition of Karela United

Haruna Iddrisu, a prominent Ghanaian politician and Member of Parliament for Tamale South, has unveiled that he acquired ownership of the football club Karela United using funds generated from the transfer of Fatawu Issahaku to Sporting Lisbon.

Previously owned by David Brigidi until his passing in 2018, Karela United faced financial difficulties following his death, leading to its complete takeover by Haruna Iddrisu in late 2022.

During an exclusive interview on the 3Sports show GPL Xpress, Iddrisu revealed that a portion of the money earned from Fatawu Issahaku’s transfer was vital in the acquisition of Karela United.

The parliamentarian is also the owner of the Tamale-based second-tier club Steadfast FC, which transferred the Black Stars winger to Sporting Lisbon in a deal reportedly worth 1.2 million euros, as per Transfermarkt.

Iddrisu explained how this venture came about, stating that it was not his initial intention. A close friend asked him for assistance, expressing the desire for him to show interest in Karela. Despite initially expressing concerns about the financial resources required, Iddrisu took up the challenge.

His objective is to stabilize Karela United in the Ghana Premier League, contribute to the league’s competitiveness, nurture talent for national teams, and provide young players with opportunities to realize their potential in the football industry.

As part of this development, Karela United has relocated from Aiyinase to Tamale, where they now host their league matches. Haruna Iddrisu’s involvement in football and the transfer of Fatawu Issahaku has played a significant role in these developments, offering opportunities for aspiring football talents in the region.
