The family of 22-year-old Kabirat Sobola, a former student of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic in Abeokuta who was reportedly stabbed to death by her boyfriend in Ogun State, is presently demanding justice. The victim, a National Diploma holder, was reportedly murdered in Abeokuta on Friday, February 4, 2023.
According to reports, Mrs Sobola, a family member, accused the police of not doing enough to probe the incident. She claimed that the deceased’s family did not believe his boyfriend.

Kabirat was found dead on her bed with a knife next to her and substantial cuts on her neck and chest, according to Mrs Sobola.
The police disregarded those details by omitting them from their reports. Following the event, her phone went missing. After she was reported missing for days, her boyfriend went to the police station on Friday, March to register a complaint.
According to the DPO;
“The boyfriend met him at the counter, saying he was looking for his girlfriend, the DPO suspected him because it was not up to 24 hours”.
“When I asked the boyfriend when last he saw her, he responded that it was around 10 a.m on Friday, March 3 but we stated that it was a reporting event since he came to the station around 1pm”.
According to report, the DPO detained him. The information concerning the deceased got to her parents the next day because they couldn’t get her on phone.
According to Mrs. Sobola, when they got to her(deceased) apartment, they noticed the door was locked even if the police tracker indicated the girl’s phone was there.

She said:
“As we unlocked the door, we noticed a key on the floor. We went in and discovered she is dead and lying on the floor with a knife beside her. Her phone was stolen and there was a deep cut on her left chest . The police didn’t make any effort to trace this”, she added.
“The guy is presently at Oba Prison and there would be another proceeding on April 27, we want justice for this girl, justice must be done”, Mrs. Sobola
Sp Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the occurrence.
However, Oyeyemi said the command murder branch has taken charge of the situation.
He said;
“What happened is that a boy came to report in Ibara Police Station that he can’t find his girlfriend at home for the past two days, the DPO in Ibara asked him if he was the girl’s parent and he replied that no, then the DPO asked him how he knew that they can’t find her. Then the DPO said they should detain him till the girl’s parents come to the station because it is the parent that has the right to report their daughter missing”.
“They detained him and sent for the parents of the girl, when they arrived, they said they don’t know what happened to the girl and they all left with the boy and went to the residence of the girl, on getting to where the girl lived they got to know that the girl had died inside her room”.
It was finally noticed after series of investigation, that the boy killed the girl after a heated argument . The case was transfered to the Homicide Section.
