Exempt all health facilities from load shedding – Minority to govt

The Minority in Parliament is calling for urgent action to address the impact of unannounced and unscheduled electricity load shedding on health facilities in Ghana.

They are urging the Ministry of Energy, in collaboration with relevant agencies, to exempt all health facilities nationwide from the current load shedding and power outages.

Additionally, they are advocating for an audit of alternate power supply systems in hospitals to determine their capacity and reliability in handling electricity disruptions. If current systems are found to be inadequate, the Minority recommends the procurement of emergency power supply systems.

The Minority expressed concern over reports of increased morbidity and mortality among patients, particularly those relying on public health facilities, due to the power outages. They criticized the government for not heeding calls to publish a load shedding timetable, which would allow Ghanaians and businesses to plan their activities accordingly.

he caucus argued that in a time of supposed excess capacity, implementing a load shedding exercise is unjustifiable, especially when it interrupts power supply to health facilities.

In conclusion, the Minority called for swift action from relevant authorities to address these critical issues and ensure the uninterrupted delivery of vital health services to Ghanaians.
