EC introduces online payment portal ahead of lost voter ID card replacement exercise

In preparation for the upcoming exercise to replace lost Voter ID cards, the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has introduced a new online payment portal. This portal will enable individuals who need to replace their lost ID cards to make the required payment conveniently.

The EC announced this development in a statement issued on Monday, October 2, 2023, and provided a step-by-step guide for applicants to follow when making payments online:

  1. Dial 2221067#.
  2. Enter the required amount for the replacement.
  3. Enter the reference, which should be the full name of the voter.
  4. Review the transfer summary presented.
  5. Select 1 to confirm the details.
  6. Wait for a prompt to authorize the transaction or check under My Approvals on *170#.

Upon successful completion of the transaction, the applicant will receive an SMS notification containing the payment reference. This notification should be presented at the payment point for the replacement.

The Electoral Commission believes that the introduction of this online payment portal will streamline the payment and replacement process, making it more efficient and convenient for voters.

The replacement of lost Voter ID cards is a significant part of the EC’s preparations for future elections, ensuring that eligible voters have access to the necessary documentation to exercise their voting rights. This initiative reflects the EC’s commitment to modernizing and improving its services to better serve the Ghanaian electorate.
