Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has issued a stern warning to the party’s delegates ahead of the flagbearer elections scheduled for Saturday, November 4. Agyapong stated that it would be a grave mistake for delegates not to vote for him, as doing so could lead to the NPP losing the 2024 elections to the opposition.
Addressing hundreds of supporters during a “Showdown Unity Walk” in Ayi Mensah, Agyapong emphasized the challenges faced by Ghanaians, including the depreciation of the Cedi against the US Dollar, revisions in bond dividends, and haircuts on pension funds. He claimed that these issues had already led Ghanaians to decide against the NPP in the 2024 elections.
Agyapong stated, “I am boldly and confidently telling you today that if you vote and make the mistake not to vote for Ken Agyapong, opposition is just staring at you because Ghanaians have decided.” He went on to say, “When the Cedi dropped and businessmen all the way to tomato sellers lost monies, Ghanaians decided. When the middle class had bonds taken for 15 years, they decided. When pensioners lost monies, they decided.”
He continued by asserting that Ghanaians are ready to vote for only one man within the NPP, which is himself. He argued that his philanthropic actions and love for the country, demonstrated through the companies he has established and the jobs he has created, make him the right choice to lead Ghana.
Agyapong also called for a shift in leadership, suggesting that Ghanaians have already tried leaders from various professions and it is now time to give a businessman a chance.
In addition, he criticized super-delegates for their roles in the outcome of the August 26 elections, claiming that many of them, including party chairmen and MPs, were intimidated.
As the NPP approaches its flagbearer elections, Agyapong’s warning highlights the stakes involved and the potential consequences for the party if he is not elected as the flagbearer. The upcoming elections will undoubtedly be closely watched by political observers and the public alike.
