GNPC-Genser energy deal must be reviewed to ensure equity – Minority

The Minority in Parliament has expressed reservations about the current form of the GNPC-Genser Energy deal, asserting that it favors other players within the industry and is thus demanding transparency in gas pricing within the country.

The Caucus, led by former Deputy Energy Minister and Deputy Minority Leader Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has called for a comprehensive review of the agreement.

Their call for a review is based on several concerns, including the belief that the agreement merges the Gas Sales Agreement (GSA) and the Gas Transmission Agreement (GTA), resulting in a lack of transparency in gas pricing.

The Minority has also raised questions about the agreement’s shift from Ghana Gas company to GNPC, considering that Ghana Gas should be the designated gas transmission utility (NGTU).

Furthermore, they are concerned about the discount granted to Genser by GNPC for the gas transmission agreement and the lack of a clear explanation from GNPC on how this discount will be recovered.

In light of these concerns, the Minority is advocating for a thorough examination and potential revision of the GNPC-Genser Energy deal to ensure that it aligns with the interests of the country and guarantees transparent gas pricing.

The Minority in Parliament has reiterated its dedication to scrutinizing and addressing the inadequacies within the deal to ensure optimal value for money.

In a statement, the Minority expressed its commitment to thoroughly examining the agreement to ensure that it is aligned with the best interests of the nation and guarantees value for money.

The Minority firmly believes that the future prosperity of Ghana hinges on securing a stable and robust energy supply, including transparent and fair gas pricing.

The pledge comes as part of their ongoing efforts to promote accountability and transparency in critical sectors of the economy, including the energy sector.

The GNPC-Genser Energy deal, which involves the provision of 50 million standard cubic feet of raw gas daily to Genser Energy, has sparked concerns from the Minority due to perceived issues with transparency and fairness.

The Minority’s proactive stance underscores their commitment to safeguarding Ghana’s energy security and ensuring that resources are managed in the best interests of the nation.
