Public Notice: NEDCo alerts the public about unapproved meters following a significant Sunyani seizure.

A public alert has been issued by NEDCo about the distribution and sale of fake energy meters throughout its service areas has been released by the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo).

This warning comes after the Ghana Police Service seized more than 200 subpar meters during a regular check on the Kenyase-Atronie road in the Sunyani Metropolis.

The meters were found at a checkpoint; it is thought that they were trafficked from nearby nations like Togo and Côte d’Ivoire.

The public has been advised by NEDCo not to purchase these untrusted meters since they present serious safety hazards, including the possibility of fire outbreaks and damage to transformers that could result in extended power outages.

The meters have not been tested or calibrated to satisfy the requirements set by regulatory organizations like the Ghana Standards Authority and the Energy Commission, the company stressed.

NEDCo reminded the public in a statement issued by Maxwell K. Kotoka, the corporate communications manager, that it is against the law to get meters from unapproved sources and to import meters without the required authorization.

In addition to announcing that a special operation would shortly be initiated to find and apprehend offenders, the business has promised to take legal action against individuals engaged in the distribution and sale of these counterfeit meters. In order to prevent legal repercussions, customers who currently own these meters are urged to return them to the closest NEDCo office.

As a result, NEDCo will pursue all appropriate legal measures against people or businesses involved in the dissemination of these unapproved meters, including their acquisition, sale, and transportation. To find and apprehend those responsible for the distribution of these unapproved meters as well as their benefactors, a unique surprise operation will be launched shortly.

It is recommended that anyone who has obtained these meters bring them to the closest NEDCo office in order to prevent being detained and facing legal action. There might not be any more updates on this activity.
