EOCO retaliates against OSP regarding Cecilia Dapaah’s money laundering case
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has made accusations against the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) over the EOCO’s apparent unwillingness to look into the case of Cecilia Dapaah, the former Minister of Sanitation. The EOCO has vehemently refuted these claims.
OSP Director of Strategy, Research, and Communications Samuel Appiah Darko recently revealed that Cecilia Dapaah’s case file had been returned by EOCO, suggesting that the company was not interested in pursuing the money laundering claims against her.
Mr. Darko said in an interview with Bernard Avle, host of Citi FM’s Citi Breakfast Show, that EOCO’s claim that it intended to return the case file was untrue because it had already been returned.
In an official statement, EOCO, however, sharply refuted the OSP’s findings, calling them a “undue misrepresentation of facts.”
After speaking with OSP personnel, EOCO claims that the OSP broke its promise to provide them the report.
“EOCO would like to rectify the excessive misrepresentation of facts and address the significant public interest sparked by the current issue.” In a letter dated February 1, 2024, and signed by Abdulai Bashiru Dapilah, Deputy Executive Director (Operations), EOCO sought from the Special Prosecutor “a copy of the findings on the case to facilitate” EOCO’s investigations after receiving the “referral” from the OSP on January 25, 2024.
However, EOCO vehemently disagreed with the OSP’s conclusions in an official statement, branding them a “undue misrepresentation of facts.”
EOCO asserts that the OSP breached its agreement to give them the report after corresponding with staff members.
