Ensuring security of Ghana: Henry quartey engages heads of agencies under the Interior Ministry
Today, the Minister for the Interior, Henry Quartey, convened a meeting with Heads of Agencies under the Ministry in his office in Accra.
The purpose of the meeting was to foster collaboration, strategize, and implement measures aimed at fulfilling the Ministry’s mandate of ensuring internal security and upholding law and order in the country.
Mr. Henry Quartey, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso Central, has been actively engaging key stakeholders since assuming office to outline his plans for the Ministry. During the meeting, he reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and security throughout the nation.
The agencies under the Ministry include the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Immigration Service, National Disaster Management Organization, Narcotics Control Commission, Gaming Commission of Ghana, Ghana National Commission on Small Arms, National Peace Council, Ghana Refugee Board, and National Identification Authority.
Prior to this engagement, the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, affirmed the security agencies’ readiness to ensure that the 2024 elections are conducted peacefully and without incidents. He reassured the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission that all parties involved in the electoral process would be safeguarded.
Similarly, the Chief of Defense Staff, Vice Admiral Seth Amoama, pledged the Ghana Armed Forces’ support in providing background assistance to the Police and other security agencies tasked with election security. While the military may not play a frontline role in election duties, they stand ready to assist when called upon.
In attendance at the stakeholder meeting was the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs. Jean Mensa, who expressed gratitude to the security agencies for their continuous support during electoral processes.
