KATH call off strike after extensive engagement with management

The leadership of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) Doctors Association has decided to suspend its industrial strike after engaging with members and management of the facility.

Following discussions on the hospital’s accommodation crisis, the doctors have entrusted management, the Regional Coordinating Council, and the Lands Commission to prevent a private developer from taking possession of their bungalows.

This decision allows the doctors at KATH to resume work starting Friday, March 15.

The strike action was initiated by doctors at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) on Wednesday, March 13, due to accommodation issues.

During the strike, the Out-Patient Department (OPD) of the health facility was overwhelmed with patients seeking healthcare, leaving hundreds stranded as nurses explained the situation to them.

However, after a meeting, the President of the KATH Doctors Association, Michael Leat, announced that they have decided to halt the search for accommodation.

He emphasized that the Association has received assurance from KATH management and stakeholders that they will handle the accommodation issue.

“After meeting with our stakeholders, they’ve promised to help us find accommodation, so we see no reason why we should go back to look for accommodation by ourselves. So our management, together with the other stakeholders, will do that for us,” he said.

Mr. Leat also assured members that they will not be harassed, as promised by the management and stakeholders.

“We believe in them, so there’s no cause for alarm. Our members also have agreed to what management and other stakeholders have said, so we are happy, both sides, management and the staff, and our stakeholders are happy,” he concluded.
