Otto Addo reappointed as Black Stars coach

Otto Addo has been reappointed as the coach of the Black Stars by the Ghana Football Association (GFA). He replaces Chris Hughton, who was dismissed after a disappointing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign earlier this year.

Following the recommendation of the five-member Black Stars Head Coach search committee, Otto Addo has been proposed for appointment as Head Coach.

Borussia Dortmund has agreed to release Otto Addo during the March international window, allowing him to assume the position permanently in May of this year.

As part of the agreement, the coach will begin a 34-month contract (2 years, 10 months) with an option to extend for an additional 24 months (two years), as revealed by the GFA.

This decision marks Otto Addo’s return to the dugout of the Black Stars after previously leading the team between March and December 2022, during which he guided the team to their fourth World Cup appearance.

According to GFA boss Kurt Okraku, “Otto was exceptional in the interview process and was rated highly by the search committee, hence the decision.”

“There were some brilliant individuals among the coaches who applied for the job, so the committee took the pain to interview a chunk of them to pick their thoughts on their intentions to transform the team within a short period of time due to our peculiar situation.”

“The Committee was overly satisfied with Otto’s performance for which reason he was recommended to the Executive Council for approval,” President Okraku added.
