Anti-lgbtqi bill: Ghana is a sovereign state, we’re opposed to cultural imperialism – Sam George tells US

Ningo Prampram lawmaker, Samuel Nartey George, has firmly asserted that the United States of America lacks the authority to interfere in Ghana’s domestic affairs.

Responding to the US warning about potential limitations on foreign aid to Ghana if President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo signs a bill criminalizing LGBTQ+ activities, Sam George emphasized Ghana’s sovereignty and the importance of being respected by all nations.

The warning came after Parliament approved legislation that could lead to prison sentences for LGBTQ+ individuals, prompting concerns from the US State Department about the possible impact on foreign investment and tourism in Ghana.

Sam George criticized the US stance, urging US officials to uphold democratic principles and recognize Ghana as a sovereign nation.

He expressed opposition to cultural imperialism and highlighted the US’s previous reluctance to intervene in the internal matters of other sovereign states.

Sam George emphasized that Ghana is not subservient to the US and urged US authorities to focus on domestic issues, such as gun violence, rather than involving themselves in Ghana’s local politics. He affirmed the sovereignty of Ghana’s parliament and its authority to pass laws without external interference.
