Former President John Mahama is reportedly set to retain Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as his presidential running mate for the upcoming general elections, according to XtraNewsPage.

The National Executive Committee (NEC) and the Council of Elders of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are preparing to deliberate on Mahama’s choice for running mate, but it’s confirmed that he will nominate Prof. Opoku-Agyemang.

Several names were considered as possible running mates, including former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, former Kumasi Mayor Kojo Bonsu, MP for Korle Klottey constituency Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, and Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang. However, Mahama’s decision to retain Prof. Opoku-Agyemang has garnered support from various quarters within the NDC.

MPs such as Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed of Tamale Central expressed their support for Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, citing the positive impact she made as Mahama’s running mate in the 2020 elections. Deputy Minority Whip Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe-Ghansah also backed Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, emphasizing the importance of women’s leadership and gender equality in Ghanaian politics.

Joseph Kwame Kumah, the NDC MP for Kintampo North constituency, echoed the sentiment, praising Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s performance and advocating for her retention as Mahama’s running mate.

Overall, Mahama’s decision to retain Prof. Opoku-Agyemang as his running mate has received widespread support within the NDC, with many highlighting her previous contributions and advocating for gender equality in leadership roles.
