Sidiku Buari, Diana Hopeson and Obour contributed to challenges facing the music industry – Gyedu-Blay Ambolley

Gyedu-Blay Ambolley, a legendary Highlife musician, recently shared his views on the challenges confronting musicians in the industry.

Speaking in an interview with Connect FM’s mid-morning host, Nana Yaw Gyebi, Ambolley expressed his disappointment with the leadership of Sidiku Buari, Diana Hopeson, and Obour during their tenures as presidents of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA).

Ambolley asserted that these leaders lacked prior experience in the music business and failed to make a significant impact on the industry. He believed that his own experience and vision could have brought positive changes to MUSIGA, but he was sidelined by what he described as “mafia” practices within the organization.

According to Ambolley, the lack of industry knowledge and experience among MUSIGA leaders contributed to the challenges faced by musicians.

He emphasized the importance of having leaders who understand the intricacies of the music business and can effectively advocate for the interests of artists.

Regarding the current state of MUSIGA, Ambolley suggested that the organization is divided, which may hinder its ability to address the issues confronting musicians.

He called for unity among musicians, particularly the veterans, to engage with the presidency and work together to improve the situation.

Ambolley’s candid interview shed light on the internal challenges within MUSIGA and underscored the importance of effective leadership in advancing the interests of musicians in Ghana.
