Bawumia suffers from a gratitude deficit – Fifi Kwetey

Fifi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticized Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, accusing him of lacking gratitude.

Kwetey argued that Dr. Bawumia’s failure to acknowledge the contributions of previous governments to initiatives like the Ghana Card project reveals his ingratitude. He emphasized that true leaders recognize the efforts of their predecessors, likening leadership to a relay race where each leader builds upon the achievements of those before them.

He pointed out instances where previous NDC administrations did not claim credit for projects initiated by the opposition, such as the N1 Highway and the Bui Dam. Kwetey criticized Dr. Bawumia’s claims regarding projects like the Tema to Akosombo rail line and the online passport application system, stating that these initiatives were initiated under previous administrations.

Furthermore, Kwetey questioned the trustworthiness of Dr. Bawumia and the Akufo-Addo administration, citing unfulfilled promises such as the provision of free tablets to senior high school students. He also highlighted Dr. Bawumia’s pledge to abolish the e-levy, a controversial tax on electronic financial transactions introduced in 2022.

Dr. Bawumia had declared his opposition to such levies prior to their implementation and reiterated his commitment to abolishing the e-levy if elected President. Additionally, he outlined plans for a new tax regime aimed at boosting individuals and businesses, including the introduction of a flat tax for individuals and small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs).

Kwetey’s remarks underscore the ongoing political discourse surrounding government initiatives and promises, particularly in the lead-up to elections.
