The decision regarding the selection of a running mate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) rests solely with the flagbearer, Former President John Dramani Mahama. However, the Asogli State Council has clarified that Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of Asogli, would not decline any opportunity to be considered for the position if it were to arise.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, February 13, in response to reports suggesting Togbe Afede’s inclusion in discussions for the running mate position, the Council emphasized that Togbe Afede has not instructed any individual or group to lobby for his selection by Mr. Mahama.
The statement further elaborated that during a visit from a group called the “Change Forum Makers” to discuss the matter, Togbe Afede conveyed his position on the issue.
“A group identifying themselves as ‘Change Makers Forum’ recently approached Togbe to discuss the possibility of him being selected as President Mahama’s running mate for the 2024 Presidential election.
“Togbe’s response was that, as a patriotic citizen, he would not turn down any opportunity to serve his country. However, he emphasized that the decision to choose a running mate rests with the flagbearer, who is already well-acquainted with him,” the statement clarified.
