GFA President-elect Kurt Okraku Urges George Afriyie to Play Positive Role in Football Development

Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku, who was re-elected for a second term during the 2023 GFA Elective Congress, has called on George Afriyie to contribute positively to the development of football in the country. Okraku ran unopposed in the election after Afriyie’s disqualification.

Afriyie’s disqualification from the GFA presidential race was attributed to a breach of GFA statutes and his failure to provide the required number of GFA members to support his candidature. Initially, Afriyie was the sole candidate expected to contest against Okraku.

In his statement, Okraku emphasized the importance of inclusivity in the football community, stating, “The football pitch is very big, and everybody, including my brother George [Afriyie], has a role to play. I will reach out to George and bring him back home.”

He further advised, “So, George, wherever you are, we are one. My message to you is, Medeama (My brother).”

The GFA elections were initially scheduled for September 27 but were postponed to October 5 due to legal issues, including injunctions filed by King Faisal and Afriyie, who has also petitioned the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
