Former President John Dramani Mahama, along with a delegation from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), visited former President John Agyekum Kufuor and his family on Wednesday, October 4, to extend their condolences following the passing of former First Lady Theresa Kufuor.
Accompanied by his wife, former First Lady Lordina, Mr. Mahama described the deceased as affectionately known as the ‘Mother of the Nation’ during her tenure as First Lady due to her dignified personality.
The delegation included the National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the Chair of the NDC Council of Elders, Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu, members of the NDC Council of Elders, and the party’s Political Committee.
Former President Mahama signed the Book of Condolence on behalf of the NDC, expressing their sadness at the passing of the respected former First Lady. He extended condolences to President Agyekum Kufuor and the entire family, wishing her peaceful repose.
Funeral arrangements for the late Theresa Kufuor are underway and will be announced in due course by the family.
In line with an instruction from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, flags across the country continue to fly at half-mast from Monday, October 2, until Sunday, October 8, in honor of the late former First Lady.
The visit by the NDC delegation to the Kufuor family underscores the tradition of Ghanaian politicians coming together in times of national mourning to show unity and offer condolences to grieving families.
