Protesters of #OccupyBoGProtest Instructed to Follow NDC’s Sammy Gyamfi

Protesters participating in the long-anticipated #OccupyBoGProtest have been instructed to follow the guidance of Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The instruction came from Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the National Chairman of the NDC, while addressing the protesters before their march to the offices of the Central Bank of Ghana.

The purpose of Tuesday’s protest is to secure a face-to-face meeting between the leadership of the Minority in Parliament and the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Yedu Kwamina Addision. The Minority leaders are demanding the resignation of Dr. Addision.

Despite previous agreements with the police regarding the route of the protest, Asiedu Nketia stated that they intend to march to the offices of the Central Bank. He referred to the Bank’s offices as a “crime scene” and claimed that financial crimes against the Ghanaian people had been committed there.

The protest began at the Obra Spot near the Kwame Nkrumah Circle Interchange and, according to the planned route, is expected to conclude at the Black Star Square.

The situation highlights the tension between protesters’ demands for access to specific locations and security concerns voiced by law enforcement agencies. The outcome of the protest and whether the police will allow demonstrators to access restricted areas will be closely watched by observers and the public alike.
