MP Accuses Bank of Ghana Governor of Cowardice for Avoiding Protesters

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo-Prampram Constituency has criticized the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison, for failing to appear to receive the Minority’s petition demanding his removal during the #OccupyBoGprotest.

In a television interview on TV3’s New Day, Sam George lambasted Dr. Addison, referring to him as a coward who was afraid of the crowd that had gathered for the protest. He expressed disappointment in the Governor’s absence and stated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs would not back down from their demands until Dr. Addison resigns.

Sam George voiced his longstanding belief that Dr. Addison is a coward and not suitable to lead the central bank. He recounted that the Governor was initially reported as unwell and later promised to receive their petition but failed to appear, sending a security officer instead.

During the protest on Tuesday, Dr. Addison did not show up to receive the petition from the NDC MPs. Instead, the demonstrators were met by the Bank’s Director of Security, Retired Wing Commander Kwame Asare-Boateng, and other senior officials. Commander Asare-Boateng explained that Dr. Addison, along with his two deputies, was in a meeting with a team from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and was therefore unavailable to accept the petition.

The Minority described this as disrespectful and informed the Bank’s representatives that they would return to present the petition directly to Dr. Addison. Sam George emphasized that the protest would continue until they had the opportunity to hand over the petition to the Governor face-to-face, declaring, “Until we see him, we are not stopping. This is just the beginning.”
