Efia Odo Condemns Police Treatment of #OccupyJulorBiHouse Protestors as “Dictatorial”

Ghanaian socialite, Efia Odo, has strongly criticized the treatment of protestors at the #OccupyJulorBiHouse demonstration by the police.

The social media influencer, known for her involvement in the ‘Fix The Country’ demonstration in 2021, took to Twitter to express her dismay over the arrest of 50 protestors on Thursday, September 21, 2023.

In her tweet, Efia Odo alluded to President Nana Akufo-Addo being a dictator based on the police’s actions against the protestors. She wrote, “We put these people in power only for them to turn and make a mockery of us. Something as simple as a demonstration which is our human right, look at how they treat us. We truly voted for a Dictator!! #OccupyJulorbiHouse.”

Efia Odo is among several showbiz personalities who have voiced their disappointment with the arrest of citizens participating in the demonstration. Other celebrities such as Kofi Kinaata, KiDi, KoJo Cue, Lydia Forson, Sarkodie, and Stonebwoy have also taken to social media to express their concerns about the situation.

The civil society group Democracy Hub, based in Accra, organized the protest to call on the President and members of the Economic Management Team to address economic mismanagement and corruption in the government. They notified the Ghana Police Service of their planned demonstration on Nkrumah Memorial Day.

Despite a police injunction application on the eve of the demonstration and warnings from the police to halt the protest, the organizers proceeded with the picket of Jubilee House. Protestors have continued their efforts to convey their message on the second day of the demonstration, despite a heavy police presence.
