Police Caution Public Against Joining Planned Protest

The Ghana Police Service has issued a cautionary statement urging the public not to participate in a planned demonstration scheduled for Thursday, September 21.

The protest is intended to take place at the Jubilee House, the seat of government.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Accra Regional Command of the police revealed that an application had been filed at the High Court to halt the three-day demonstration.

However, organizers of the protest dismissed the police statement, calling on the public to gather at the 37 bus terminal on Thursday morning in preparation for the march to the Jubilee House. They argued that they had not received any court order.

In response, the police clarified that the court order was served to the organizers through their legal representatives, Atuguba & Associates, on Tuesday, September 19. The police also noted that the organizers themselves had indicated in their notification letter to the police that they could be contacted through their lawyers.

Therefore, the police are urging the public to disregard any invitations to join the planned demonstration in the interest of maintaining public order and safety. They have characterized the protest as “unlawful” and are committed to upholding the law.
