Ghanaian Youth Suspected of Ties to Russian Mercenary Group Arrested

Three Ghanaian youth have been arrested in Diabene, Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, on suspicion of having ties to the Russian mercenary group known as Wagner.

The arrests followed a public durbar organized by the youth, during which they displayed flags of Wagner and Russia.

The suspects have been identified as Evans (25 years old), Michael Asiedu (23 years old), and Ernest Asiedu (26 years old). Allegedly, with the help of a sponsor from Australia, they mobilized approximately 20 youth to launch a military-style demonstration at the Diabene community park.

During the event, the group hoisted flags of various countries and played national anthems. The police apprehended the suspects following a tip-off.

Ramatu Ibrahim, the Assemblywoman of Fijai responsible for Diabene, expressed shock at the incident and called for the prosecution of those involved. She revealed that the police explained to the arrested individuals that they were unaware of the seriousness of their actions.

“The police said after arrest and interrogation, the boys said they were doing a freedom demonstration, they said they were training on how to wage war against the government,” said Ramatu Ibrahim. She added, “Their influential leader is abroad, and the leader in Ghana is 25 years old. They were promised some money if their planned action became successful.”

Mensah Promise, also known as “The Spinner,” who was arrested alongside the suspects for providing music at the event, confirmed that they have already appeared in court twice at the Takoradi Circuit Court. They are currently out on bail.

The Western Regional Police Command has acknowledged the incident and promised to provide further details soon.
