Electoral Commission Chairperson Describes Limited Voter Registration as Successful

Mrs. Jean Adukwei Mensa, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, has characterized the ongoing limited voter registration exercise as successful, despite initial challenges.

During a press briefing on Monday, September 18, 2023, Mrs. Mensa acknowledged that the registration process faced some disruptions initially but stated that these issues were promptly resolved, ensuring a seamless process.

She reported that a total of 182,831 voters have been registered across the country in six days, with various regions contributing to the total as follows:

The Ashanti Region recorded the highest number of registrations, representing 16 percent, while the North-East Region had the lowest, representing 2.3 percent. Males accounted for 53.9 percent of registrations, while females constituted 46.1 percent.

Mrs. Mensa expressed her satisfaction with the registration exercise, despite some personnel and technical challenges at the initial stages. She assured the public that officers were working diligently to ensure eligible young voters could register with ease.

The Chairperson also refuted claims that the challenges faced could disenfranchise many Ghanaians.
