Campaigning will be difficult – Constituency Secretary rejects Adwoa Safo Dome-Kwabenya NPP comeback

The Constituency Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Dome-Kwabenya, Theophilus Ansah Larbi, has raised concerns about the potential re-election of incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) Sarah Adwoa Safo as the party’s Parliamentary Candidate.

He believes that retaining Adwoa Safo may have negative consequences for the NPP in the 2024 elections.

According to Mr. Ansah Larbi, such a move could lead to an increase in support for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and make campaigning for the NPP more challenging.

He pointed out that Adwoa Safo’s behavior during the 2020 elections had already caused difficulties for the party.

He expressed his doubts about Adwoa Safo’s comeback, even after she issued an apology to key party stakeholders, including constituency executives, for her actions and inactions.

While he accepted her apology, he emphasized that retaining her as the candidate might not be in the party’s best interest.

Mr. Ansah Larbi highlighted the NDC’s unprecedented 50,000-plus votes in the 2020 elections, attributing it to Adwoa Safo’s attitude and actions.

He suggested that for the party’s sake, it would be better to field a new candidate in the constituency.

Adwoa Safo, who had previously served as Deputy Majority Leader, announced her intention to seek a fourth parliamentary term on the NPP ticket in the 2024 elections.

However, she must win the party’s primaries scheduled for February 2024 to become the official candidate.

Mr. Ansah Larbi stressed that he had interacted with NPP supporters in the constituency, and many believed that a change in candidate would be more beneficial for the party’s chances of success in 2024.
