John Mahama to Visit Limited Voter Registration Centers in Greater Accra Region

John Dramani Mahama, the 2024 flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has scheduled a visit to several centers used for the ongoing limited voter registration exercise in the Greater Accra Region.

According to a release issued on Friday, September 15, Mr. Mahama will tour various centers, including the headquarters of the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC), as well as district offices in Adenta, La, and Tema.

The limited voter registration exercise commenced on Tuesday, September 12, and is set to conclude on Monday, October 2. However, its initiation faced resistance from the NDC, other political parties, and civil society groups, who rejected the EC’s decision to conduct the exercise only in districts instead of electoral areas.

Despite these concerns, the public, particularly first-time voters, have been encouraged to participate fully in the exercise.

Mr. Mahama previously called on the EC to reconsider its decision to restrict the registration exercise to its district offices and urged an extension of the exercise to include electoral areas, citing the inconveniences faced by voters, such as transportation and accessibility issues.

His visit to the registration centers is expected to draw attention to the ongoing registration process and highlight the NDC’s stance on the matter.
