The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has reiterated his support for the Director-General of Operations for the Ghana Police Service, COP George Alex Mensah, amidst ongoing allegations and controversies.
During his testimony before the parliamentary ad-hoc committee, Dr. Dampare highlighted the cordial relationship he has built with COP Alex Mensah and all officers under his command.
He emphasized that he offers them necessary support when needed, extending beyond professional matters to personal issues.
“As a chief servant, anytime there is any private family thing associated with any of my commanders, I personally call them, encourage them, and offer any support that I need to offer.
Including my own brother [COP Alex Mensah], I was there for him 100% when his mother passed on, asking questions about the development and movement about the funeral.
On the day of the funeral, I marshaled all the commanders at POMAB (Police Management Board), went and sympathized with him,” the IGP stated.
Dr. Dampare highlighted that he has maintained peaceful coexistence with his colleagues and subordinates since becoming IGP.
He expressed his respect and courtesy towards colleagues and subordinates irrespective of their ranks, emphasizing the importance of building teamwork and a sense of belongingness within the police service.
However, the IGP disagreed with the allegations made against him by COP George Alex Mensah and other senior police officers.
COP Alex Mensah had previously asserted that the current IGP is not effectively managing the service, expressing discontent among police officers.
Supt. George Asare, another senior police officer involved in the leaked tape, requested an in-camera hearing to discuss the IGP’s performance, indicating his reluctance to address such matters in a public setting.
The ongoing investigation seeks to uncover the truth behind the leaked tape and the allegations against the IGP.
