Top Police Official Discloses Lobbying Efforts for IGP Position
COP George Mensah, a high-ranking police officer implicated in an alleged plot to remove Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has revealed that he attempted to lobby for the position of IGP through former Northern Regional Chairman, Daniel Bugri Naabu.
During his appearance before the ad-hoc parliamentary committee investigating the leaked audio recording that purportedly captured the plot, COP Mensah disclosed that he had submitted his CV to an individual sent by Bugri Naabu.
The purpose of this submission was to facilitate lobbying efforts to secure the position of IGP. However, these lobbying efforts were ultimately unsuccessful.
COP Mensah further revealed that lobbying for the position of IGP was not a recent endeavor, stating that he and others had been engaged in such efforts since 2017.
He emphasized that the appointment of an IGP did not exclusively involve promoting commissioners, as demonstrated by previous appointments.
Additionally, COP Mensah expressed concerns about the management of the Police Service under IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare’s leadership.
He asserted that the IGP’s management style had contributed to a decline in morale among many police officers, with a significant number of them expressing dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs.
The revelations made during COP Mensah’s testimony add another layer of complexity to the ongoing investigation into the alleged plot to remove the IGP.
The ad-hoc parliamentary committee continues to gather information and conduct hearings related to this matter.
