Senior Police Officer Reveals Lobbying Efforts for IGP Position Amidst Ongoing Controversy

COP George Alex Mensah, a senior police officer currently embroiled in a plot allegedly aimed at ousting the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has disclosed a previously undisclosed aspect of this complex situation.

According to COP Mensah, Commander George Asare, a fellow officer, had lobbied on his behalf to secure the position of IGP.

This revelation follows the emergence of a leaked audio recording in which senior police officers discussed a plan to remove Dr. Dampare from his position as IGP.

It appears that the desire to replace the IGP has been a topic of discussion for some time, with lobbying efforts in place.

COP Mensah explained that Bugri Naabu, the former Northern Regional Chairman of the NPP, conveyed to Superintendent Asare that the Akufo-Addo government was considering a change in leadership within the Police Service due to concerns about the current IGP’s performance.

In response to this information, Superintendent Asare recommended COP Mensah as a suitable replacement for Dr. Dampare.

These developments add further complexity to the ongoing investigation into the alleged plot to remove Dr. Dampare from his position. COP Mensah has previously voiced his dissatisfaction with the IGP’s leadership, asserting that Dr. Dampare is the worst IGP in the history of Ghana.

He has also admitted to engaging in political activities and working in the interest of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), echoing sentiments expressed in the leaked audio recording.

As the investigation continues, it is expected that more details regarding the individuals involved and their motivations will come to light, shedding further light on this controversial situation.
