NPP Responds to Allegations Regarding Run-off Decision

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has issued a response to the allegations made by former flagbearer hopeful, Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko, regarding the decision to conduct a run-off between him and former Mampong lawmaker, Francis Addai-Nimoh.

Mr. Agyarko had withdrawn from the run-off, citing a “clear violation of the party’s constitution and the guidelines for the Special Electoral College.”

In a reply, the National Chairman of the NPP, Stephen Ayesu Ntim, stated that Mr. Agyarko’s allegations are unfounded. He clarified that no run-off is explicitly provided for under the NPP Constitution in relation to the election in question.

While the guidelines formulated by the Presidential Elections Committee allowed for a run-off, they did not specify the modalities for such a run-off.

Mr. Ayesu Ntim emphasized that the National Council, as the highest authority of the party in between National Annual Delegates Conferences, has the power to determine the modalities to break the tie.

He stated that the decision to conduct a special election by the National Council, constituted as an Electoral College, was reached after comprehensive analysis and deliberation.

The National Council considered the totality of the circumstances within the party and concluded that this decision was in the best interest of the party.

Mr. Ayesu Ntim wished Mr. Boakye Agyarko well and expressed the party’s continued reliance on his rich experience as a member of the National Council.

This response from the NPP provides clarity on the party’s perspective regarding the run-off decision and seeks to address Mr. Agyarko’s concerns.

The NPP remains focused on its preparations for the upcoming presidential primary on November 4.
