Francis Addai-Nimoh Highlights Importance of Fresh Face for NPP’s Presidential Candidacy

Francis Addai-Nimoh, one of the flagbearer hopefuls of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has emphasized the significance of presenting a new and untarnished candidate to break the cycle of eight years and retain power in the upcoming elections.

He believes that the current political and economic climate demands a fresh and unblemished figure to lead the party and maintain its hold on power.

Addai-Nimoh pointed out that historical patterns indicate that incumbent parties tend to lose when a candidate who was part of the government represents the party in the general elections.

He cited examples of Professor Atta-Mills, Akufo-Addo, and John Mahama, all of whom were part of the government when they represented their respective parties and faced defeat after eight years in power.

He emphasized that these instances underscore the need for a new face after a party has been in government for eight years, as there is a sense of “facial fatigue” among the electorate.

Addai-Nimoh urged the NPP not to repeat the mistake of presenting a candidate who is closely associated with the incumbent government.

In his view, the NPP should focus on finding a candidate with an impressive track record, fresh appeal, and a compelling message that resonates with the voters.

He believes that such a candidate would have a better chance of winning the 2024 elections and maintaining the party’s position in power.
