I recorded the convo and Nana Akufo-Addo was the only person I shared it with – Bugri Naabu
In a surprising twist to the ongoing saga surrounding the leaked tape discussing a plot to remove the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, Daniel Bugri Naabu, the former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has come forward to reveal that he recorded the controversial conversation.
His intention was to safeguard his party and ensure accurate information reached President Akufo-Addo.
Bugri Naabu explained that he felt compelled to record the conversation with three high-ranking police officers due to the gravity of the issues being discussed.
The motivation was twofold: first, to protect the interests of the NPP, and second, to ensure that he had credible evidence to present to the President. He highlighted the significance of conveying accurate information to President Akufo-Addo to maintain his respect and trust.
“I recorded this tape because I was being asked to convey a message to the President. I wanted to make sure that whatever I tell the President is accurate. If I go and tell him something that turns out to be false, it would affect my credibility,” Bugri Naabu explained during his appearance before the parliamentary committee probing the leaked tape.
However, Bugri Naabu clarified that he didn’t personally record the conversation. Instead, he sought the assistance of someone familiar with recording technology to capture the conversation accurately.
He emphasized that the conversation took place within the confines of his office in Osu, near the Osu Police Station.
The leaked tape has caused a stir in Ghanaian politics, implicating the involvement of high-ranking police officers discussing the potential removal of the IGP due to perceived political alignments.
The parliamentary Ad-Hoc Committee, chaired by Samuel Atta-Akyea, is tasked with investigating the tape’s authenticity and the allegations contained within.
The ongoing probe aims to shed light on the intricacies of the situation that has captured the nation’s attention.
