Meet all 10 NPP Presidential Aspirants

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is presently engaged in the process of selecting five candidates out of the ten flagbearer aspirants for the upcoming national conference on November 4, 2023.

The chosen five candidates will then proceed to the final round of the presidential primary, where the flag bearer for the 2024 general election will be elected.

A total of 956 senior members of the NPP are participating as delegates in today’s election to shortlist the five candidates.

These delegates consist of members from the National Council, National Executive Committee (NEC), regional executive committees, National Council of Elders, Members of Parliament, special organs of the party, past national officers, external branches, and founder members.

The election is taking place simultaneously across all 16 regional capitals and the NPP headquarters at Asylum Down in Accra. The final collation will occur at the Electoral Commission (EC) headquarters in Accra.

Now, let’s delve into brief profiles of the ten aspirants in the order they appear on the ballot paper:

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong

  • Born on June 16, 1960, from Assin Dompim in the Central region.
  • Attended Adisadel College and completed sixth form education at Winneba Secondary School.
  • Started working at Assin Farms, then Managing Director of Super Care Group of Companies and Hollywood Shopping Center.
  • Current Member of Parliament for Assin Central since 2000.
  • Owns multiple companies including Oman FM, Ash FM, Net 2 TV, and more.
  • Married with 22 children.

Alan John Kwadwo Kyeremanten

  • Born on October 3, 1955.
  • Attended Adisadel College and Achimota School.
  • Holds degrees in Economics and Law.
  • Former Ambassador to the U.S.
  • Appointed Cabinet Minister for Trade, Industry, and Special Initiatives.
  • Contested for NPP leadership positions in the past.
  • Former Minister for Trade and Industry.
  • Married to Patricia Christabel Kyerematen with two children.

Joe Ghartey

  • Born on June 15, 1961 in Accra.
  • Old student of Mfantsipim School.
  • Studied law and practiced as an attorney.
  • Served as Deputy Attorney General and later as Attorney General and Minister for Justice.
  • Appointed Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
  • Five-term Member of Parliament for Essikado Ketan.
  • Former Minister for Railways Development.
  • Married with 5 children.

Kwadwo Poku

  • Born in 1974.
  • Studied Civil Engineering (B.Eng) at City University, London.
  • Energy sector veteran with over 24 years of experience.
  • CEO and Founder of FKP & RALD INVESTMENT LTD.
  • Businessman and energy expert.
  • Served as Country Director for GASOP OIL (GHANA) LIMITED.

Afriyie Akoto

  • Born on October 19, 1949.
  • Graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture.
  • Holds a doctorate in Agricultural Economics.
  • Former Minister of Food and Agriculture.
  • Credited with implementing the Planting for Food and Jobs programme.
  • MP for Kwadaso from 2009.
  • Married with seven children.

Kwabena Agyapong

  • Born on March 6, 1962, in Kumasi.
  • Civil engineer and former Press Secretary to former President Kufuor.
  • Contested NPP presidential primary in 2007.
  • Former General Secretary of the NPP.

Addai-Nimoh

  • Born on March 23, 1956.

  • Born on September 7, 1954, at Akumadan.

Boakye Agyarko

  • Born in 1956 in Kumasi.
  • Economist and banker.
  • Former Minister of Energy.
  • Former National Campaign Manager for NPP.
  • Former Policy Adviser to NPP’s presidential candidate.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

  • Born on October 7, 1963.
  • Current Vice President of Ghana.
  • Holds degrees in Economics, Development Economics, and Ph.D. in Economics.
  • Former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana.
  • Lead witness in the 2012 Presidential Election Petition.
  • Married to Samira Bawumia, with four children.
