Only one NPP MP out of 137 supports Kennedy Agyapong for President

As the New Patriotic Party (NPP) prepares for its Super Delegates Conference to select the top contenders for the presidential “flagbearership” position, it has been revealed that Kennedy Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central Constituency, has received the support of only one out of the 137 NPP members in Parliament.

This support represents approximately 0.7% of the party’s parliamentary members.

The source within the Majority Caucus of Parliament indicated that since Kennedy Agyapong launched his campaign for the “flagbearership” position, only one MP from the majority has openly supported him.

The source, who requested anonymity, pointed out that Kennedy Agyapong’s limited support among his parliamentary colleagues is surprising, given his long tenure in Parliament.

Many MPs have publicly declared their support for Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, while a few have backed former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen.

The source explained that the flagbearership position is crucial for the party, as it involves selecting someone who can appeal to Ghanaians and lead the party effectively.

The MPs are looking for a candidate with proven human relations skills, competence, maturity, humility, and a strong track record of ideas to benefit both the party and the country.

As a result, the overwhelming majority of NPP MPs have thrown their support behind Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, who is seen as embodying these qualities.

The source suggested that Kennedy Agyapong may need to reflect on why he has not garnered more support among his parliamentary colleagues for the “flagbearership” position.
