Slain Journalist’s Family Expresses Concern Over Potential Presidential Candidacy of Kennedy Agyapong

The family of the late journalist, Ahmed Suale, has voiced their apprehension about the possibility of justice being served in his murder case if Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, is elected president.

In a statement, the family expressed their dissatisfaction with comments made by Agyapong, who is seeking the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) nomination for the 2024 general elections.

Agyapong had made statements in an interview indicating that he had no regrets about the circumstances leading up to Suale’s murder in January 2019.

The family, in their statement, accused Agyapong of being responsible for the journalist’s murder, asserting that no amount of comments or attempts can absolve him of the alleged crime.

They claim that Ahmed Suale would still be alive if Agyapong had not released his photos on Net2 TV and called for violence against him.

The family contends that Agyapong’s actions were instrumental in exposing Suale’s identity, as he was an undercover reporter working on projects for Tiger Eye PI and the BBC.

The family pointed out Agyapong’s previous comments that allegedly incited violence against Ahmed Suale. They quoted Agyapong’s statements where he reportedly encouraged people to identify and attack Suale, stating that he would cover the costs.

The family criticized Agyapong’s attempt to later limit the scope of his comments, emphasizing that his words were clear calls for violence.

The lack of remorse and the family’s perception of Agyapong’s defense tactics have raised concerns that justice may not be served if Agyapong were to become the president of Ghana after the 2024 elections.

The family expressed their disappointment with the lack of progress in the investigation into Suale’s murder by the police. They expect the police to examine potential charges of aiding and abetting, as well as threats of harm, based on ample evidence that they claim has been reported to the authorities.

The family’s statement underscores the deep-seated emotions and concerns regarding the unresolved murder of Ahmed Suale, reflecting broader conversations about accountability, justice, and the role of influential figures in the country’s political landscape.
