Don’t mobilize Ghanaian soldiers for an ECOWAS war in Niger – Ablakwa tells Akufo-Addo

North Togu Member of Parliament, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has expressed concern over President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s decision to mobilize Ghanaian soldiers for a potential ECOWAS-led intervention in Niger.

In a tweet, Ablakwa urged the president to halt the mobilization of soldiers and to submit his Niger policy to Parliament for scrutiny. He emphasized that war and bloodshed should not be the solution and called for diplomacy and constructive dialogue instead.

The situation in Niger arose following the illegal detention of President Mohamed Bazoum by members of the Presidential Guard, leading to concerns about the restoration of constitutional order.

ECOWAS has been involved in efforts to address the crisis and condemned the attempted coup d’état and the continued illegal detention of President Bazoum, his family, and members of his government.

In response, ECOWAS has taken several measures, including border closure, travel bans, asset freezes, and the deployment of the ECOWAS Standby Force to restore constitutional order in Niger.

The organization has called for support from partner countries and institutions, including the African Union and the United Nations, to ensure the peaceful resolution of the crisis in Niger.

Ablakwa’s call for diplomacy and constructive dialogue underscores the importance of finding peaceful solutions to conflicts in the region and emphasizes

the need for leadership that prioritizes peaceful resolutions rather than resorting to military intervention.
