Isaac Adongo, the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central Constituency, criticized Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s mid-year budget review in Parliament. Adongo claimed that some of his colleagues were actually sleeping during the presentation, despite shouting in agreement with the minister’s speech.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) expressed their dissatisfaction with the budget review, as Ofori-Atta announced no supplementary budget but made adjustments to revenue targets and GDP growth rate.

Adongo expressed his frustration, stating that he had to wake up his colleagues to pay attention during the speech. He referred to the budget review as a “funeral dirge.”

In response to concerns raised about the declining economy, Ofori-Atta maintained that the government has “turned the corner” due to collective investments and sacrifices made since March 2020.

The tense exchange reflects differing perspectives on the government’s economic management and highlights the ongoing challenges in steering the nation’s financial course amid economic uncertainties.
