James Gyakye Quayson, the MP for Assin North, has received a warning from Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo for failing to appear in court.
The Chief Justice called the lawmaker’s behaviour “irregular” and that it be discouraged.
Gyakye Quayson’s request to have his daily trial in the High Court halted was denied by the Supreme Court’s five-member panel.
Gyakye Quayson’s attorneys said that the High Court rejected a motion to compel prosecutors to turn over specific documents they withheld from the jury during the trial.
The panel was not pleased with the Assin North MP, who was not present in court but was represented by his attorney.
He does not respect this court. He challenges this court, but he doesn’t show up. Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo stated, “You must treat the court appropriately when you want the court to use discretion.
