Cecilia Dapaah was loyal; her integrity will be established – Akufo-Addo

Following her resignation as Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo praised Cecilia Abena Dapaah’s devotion in defending the reputation of his government.

The president hailed Madam Dapaah’s efforts at the ministry as “excellent and productive.”

Madam Dapaah delivered her resignation letter to the president on Saturday, July 22, 2023, a day after she made headlines for reportedly stealing large sums of international and local currency from her Accra apartment.

Between July and October 2022, the two house helpers, 18-year-old Patience Botwe and 30-year-old Sarah Agyei, reportedly stole money and personal goods from Abena Dapaah and her husband.

Two of the minister’s house helpers and three others are currently facing charges in an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly stealing $1 million, €300,000, and millions of Ghanaian cedis in October 2022 at the former minister’s apartment in Abelenkpe, Accra.

In his acceptance note, the president described the resignation as unfortunate and expressed confidence that the minister’s integrity while in office will be restored.

The President’s acceptance speech is included below.

I received your letter dated Saturday, July 22, 2023, in which you resigned as Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources and as a member of the Government. I accept your departure with great regret, but I commend your dedication to the Government’s image and status.

The job you did while in government was great and productive, and I appreciate your wholehearted participation and dedication to the advancement of the government and the nation. I am certain, as you are, that your integrity will be fully proven by the end of your tenure in office. I wish you the best of luck in all of your pursuits.
