In 2017, Jos Hike It brought together over 500 people from diverse backgrounds, transcending racial, ethnic, and religious differences.

The following year, they doubled the number, reaching a milestone of 1,124 participants. Undeterred, the team set their sights higher and astounded everyone by hosting 3,811 individuals from around the world, including visitors from Canada, the USA, Bangladesh, and other African countries.

Their achievement caught the attention of many people. They were informed that the present world record of 815 participants for a single hike is held in Iraq. This realization inspired Jos Hike It to pursue the official title and gain global recognition for their efforts. The team contacted Guinness World Records, engaging in correspondence and exploring sponsorship opportunities.Despite their unwavering determination, securing financial support proved challenging.

Numerous proposals were submitted to companies and organizations, including prominent sponsors like MTN Nigeria and GloWorld, but the desired funding did not materialize. Disheartened but undeterred, the team remains hopeful and intends to explore crowdfunding options to meet the financial demands of this colossal project.

For Jos Hike It, the significance of breaking the Guinness World Record extends beyond personal achievement.

Plateau State has been plagued by a negative narrative, and the organization aims to change this perception. By showcasing the region’s natural beauty and fostering peaceful coexistence, Jos Hike It hopes to position Plateau State as a premier tourism destination within Nigeria and Africa.The founder, expressed disappointment with the lack of government support, despite submitting proposals to the Barr Lalong Administration. However, they remain optimistic that the current administration, led by Caleb Mutfwang, will recognize the importance of this milestone attempt and potentially offer sponsorship or endorsement.

As the December 2023 deadline approaches, Jos Hike It urges the public to share their thoughts and support their cause. Social media has played a vital role in the organization’s growth, and they hope that retweets and engagements on platforms like Twitter could lead to potential sponsorship deals.
