I packed my travel suitcase to catch a 10 a.m. flight. I wanted to be an hour early, after all, I wasn’t in Lagos, where I have to be at the airport a day ahead ????As I walked into the elevator, rolling my black suitcase casually. My eyes rose up, and two elderly ladies and a man were already inside. We all headed for the ground floor from the 34th.
As we approach the 25th floor, the elevator cracks & stops. We all panic in fear. The ladies were screaming, but I remained calm.We try calling the reception, and they apologize. “Pls remain calm, a team is en route”. 25 minutes later, we are still inside this elevator, and I’m already sweating. I don’t want to miss my flight, so I prayed.
A team of armored personnel eventually opens the elevator, & the ladies are screaming, while medics are holding us. I rushed out, avoiding the first aid team, to catch my flight, but I eventually arrived 7 minutes late, missing my flight.God knows, I didn’t want to be part of the drama back at the hotel. I booked the next flight for 3 p.m. and kept asking myself, “Why is this happening to me?Then a voice reminds me as usual; Remember, Orondaam, “nothing happens to you, but for you.
“It was 2 p.m., and my new flight was called. I settled into my seat, lost in thought. As the flight took off, I decided to take the time to review some documents for the meeting I was going to the next day.As I was engrossed in my work, the elderly black woman sitting next to me glanced at me, and asked. Are you Otto Orondaam? Yes, I am, ma’am, I replied.Oh, lovely, I am Dr. Editha, and I sit on the global board of XYZ.
You’ll be meeting with us tomorrow morning. I read about you, and I was so impressed.”Wow! I was in complete shock. We spent the rest of the 5-hour flight talking about our shared vision & their global programs. I still couldn’t imagine what was happening. What had seemed like an unfortunate loss, was God’s redirection. That lady ended up becoming a great mentor and cheerleader. An incredible angel! This event, just like many others, has made me believe that our future is predestined and that nothing happens by chance. So friends, always remember, “Nothing happens to you, but for you.
