Find the money if you claim to look like me and wish to live like me – Medikal jabs Look alike.
Ghanaian Rapper, Medikal has taken a swipe at the four young men who are impersonating him and his colleague musicians on social media.
Tagged the 4 Kings, the group have been allegedly imitating the style and mannerisms of celebrities and even performing their songs in public.
While impersonating a celebrity or popular figure may be considered a harmless gesture as has been the case all over the world, it can also have serious consequences for artists who rely on their image and brand to build a successful career.
Medikal who took to social media to condemn the act also had some careful words of advice to the 4 Kings comprising of a lookalike of Medikal himself, King Promise, Kuami Eugene and Mr Drew.
“If you claim to look like me and so want to live like me, fine then find the money. Because Medikal is always looking for money, I am always preaching about money, telling people to grind, not to give up, to forget everybody, and keep going hard, so why are you online asking for MOMO? Because Medikal doesn’t come on live to ask for MOMO.” he pointed out
According to a legal expert, celebrity impersonators can also damage an artist’s reputation by giving subpar performances or engaging in inappropriate behaviour, but they can also infringe on the artist’s intellectual property rights by using their image or music without permission.
A celebrity can also sue a lookalike for impersonating them which could lead to 20 years in prison
