They cannot conclude that there have been Measles-related deaths until the results are in.

“If we suspect a case, samples are sent to Noghuchi in Accra, and so we get the confirmation from Noguchi, and so if children unfortunately died and the results are not yet back scientifically, it is very difficult for us to conclude that they died from Measles,” he told TV3.

“They can say they have five suspected Measles deaths, and that is what they said, so until we get confirmation from Noguchi or the Lab, we won’t be able to say we had five cases of Mesalses deaths, because we don’t have any deaths among all the confined cases.”

Professor Alhassan Abdul Mumin, Head of Pediatrics and Child Health at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), previously stated that the facility had five suspected Measles deaths.

“The only reason we’re still calling them suspected cases is that we don’t yet have laboratory results.”

“We admitted five patients with suspected measles. “The suspected measles has all of the features that you would document for a child or a patient who has measles,” he said, according to multiple media reports.
