We will not be able to complete the Suame Interchange before 2024 – A/R Minister

According to Ashanti Region Minister Simon Osei-Mensah, the government will not be able to complete the Suame Interchange before the 2024 general elections.

Mr Osei-Mensah, speaking on the GhanAkoma evening political show on Akoma FM in Kumasi, urged the people of the Region not to politicize the project.

He added that the most important thing is that “all the complementary roads linked to the project will be completed before 2024 general elections”.

President Nana Akufo-Addo broke ground on the Suame Interchange in Kumasi in October 2022, declaring that the government is working hard to improve urban mobility in the city and the Ashanti Region as a whole.

Work on the project has yet to begin five months after the sod was cut.

In an interview with host Kofi Asante Ennin, the Ashanti Regional Minister stated that the entire project will not be completed before the 2024 general elections.

He stated that the project will take 36 months to complete and that they will work within that time frame.

He blamed the project’s delay on the relocation of utility lines in the area, the location of the construction firm’s camp, and the delay in the release of funds for the project.

“To be honest, I doubt that all of the major components of the Suame Interchange will be completed before Ghana’s general elections in 2024,” he said.

“However, it is reasonable to expect the complementary roads to be completed before the 2024 general elections.”

He urged the people of the Region to work with the government to overcome the project’s initial challenges.

He assured that work on the project would resume soon because the construction firm and the government had addressed the majority of the issues.
