A young adolescent defiles a young girl.On election day in Nigeria,
Tosin Oloyede, a teenager in Lagos, Nigeria, was remanded on Wednesday by an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court in Ogba, Lagos State, for allegedly raping a five- years-old girl during the Presidential and National Assembly Election.
In order to wait for legal counsel from the Directorate of Public Prosecution, Magistrate Mrs B.O Osusanmi confined the defendant to the Special Correlation Institutes for Boys in Oregun.
The 16-years-old boy is accused of defiling his neighbours daughter at 2pm at Ikorudu, according to the prosecution, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Akeem Raji, who testified in court.
The prosecutor stated that, the accused violated section 27 and is penalised in accordance with Section 210(8) of the 2015 Child Right Law in Lagos State.
Report claimed that the little girl began crying in court on Wednesday when she saw the accused that raped her.
Inspector Esther Igbineweka, the investigating police officer, informed Magistrate Osusanmi that the suspects made confessional statements at both the Igbogbo Police Station and the Police command in Ikeja after the parents of the victim reported the case. In contract, the suspect just acknowledged touching the girl in court.
He said;
“The defendant acknowledged to us that he had carnal knowledge with the victim”.
Abdulkareem Jagun, a lawyer, made an announcement of his presence on behalf of the complainant, while a lawyer also spoke on behalf of the defendant.
The victim’s father claimed that because it was Election Day, he and his wife went out to cast their vote.
She said;
“On Election Day, we went to our polling unit of cast our votes, my wife and I. When we got home, my son said he was outside playing football when the boy sexually assaulted his sister”,
“My son said, when he didn’t see his sister for long, he went outside looking for her. When he got inside the house, he caught the boy sexually abusing his sister but his parents pleaded with him not to tell anybody, but how could he kept such secrets away from his parents”.
The case was postponed to April 12, 2023, so the DPP could provide legal counsel.
